How to care for your Pilea Cadierei

Use these instructions to care for your cactus. This guide will tell you how to water a cactus; its light, temperature, and humidity preferences; and any additional care it may need to help it grow.

If your Pilea is growing indoors, make sure the plant receives plenty of indirect light for at least four hours a day, as direct sunlight can burn its leaves and turn them an unpleasant golden hue. However, if you want it outdoors, in the garden or on a terrace, keep it in semi-shade.

In the warmer months of spring and summer, it's recommended to keep it moist, not letting it dry out completely. Watering twice a week is best. During the winter and fall months, the plant will need less watering; once a week is sufficient.

It loves humidity, so it's best not to leave it near heat sources. Spraying it occasionally will help keep it perfect and happy.

Prefers temperatures between 15°c - 25°c.

The substrate will be important during the change of seasons. Spring is ideal, as the plant begins its growth phase, and fertilization is key during this time. During the winter months, it's not necessary.

It is toxic to our companions, dogs and cats, so it should be kept away from them.

Pilea Cadierei is an easy plant to care for, but that doesn't mean we should leave it to its own devices; its basic needs must be met. It's normal for its roots to grow and become more and more thriving if it's happy. The first year, it's good practice to repot it into a larger pot if necessary.

Common Problems for your Pilea Cadierei

Pilea Cadierei is easy to care for, but it can be demanding when it comes to its growing conditions. That shouldn't deter you from growing this amazing plant. The most common problem you may encounter is checking the plant for excessively abundant root growth each spring. When you first purchase the plant, it's good practice to repot it into a pot larger than necessary. The plant's roots will actually outgrow its pot and burst through its container. Address this by repotting the first year by making larger pots, then repotting into an even larger pot each following year.
